International Women’s Day 2025: What does it mean to Pixel?

Then vs Now

Pixel’s UK office was established in 1996, followed by the launch of our Indian production hub five years later. When the Pune office first opened, there were no women on the team. By early 2009, only two women were working in the office, one of whom was Cat, serving as the Director. Women comprised less than 10% of our total staff at that time.

As a proud equal opportunity employer, we are thrilled to announce that in 2025, our workforce now boasts an impressive 50:50 ratio of women to men. This balance is reflected across all areas of the business.

But why is a 50/50 split something to celebrate?

Women remain underrepresented in tech companies, especially in leadership roles. While Pixel has a strong female founder, companies like Google, and Microsoft lack this representation. In 2025, Google reported 31% of women in leadership positions with Microsoft only at 26%. In the UK, as of 2024, women only hold 5% of leadership roles in tech and only 30% of tech workers in India are female. Cat has defied gender norms by co-founding an incredible company with her business partner, Steve, and building it from the ground up.

Given the ongoing issues of gender equality in society today, Pixel is extremely proud to share and prioritise our company’s commitment to this important goal. We aim to be a company that encourages women in STEM roles.

Influence and opportunity

This year’s International Women’s Day theme is ‘Accelerated Action’, with the aim to address common and persistent gender inequalities that hold women back; “With progress too slow, now is the time to generate real change.”

Pixel wants to be at the forefront of this change. With strong women at the helm, we are prioritising growth and opportunities for women in their professional careers.

Cat has fostered a culture that honours women’s roles and their influence. Her message to the female members of our team is clear and simple:

“We must view International Women’s Day as an important opportunity to recognise women’s achievements both globally and within our businesses.”

Cat Smith, Founding Director

She believes that together, as women, we can help change opinions, combat bias, increase people’s knowledge, and improve challenging situations.

For us, International Women’s Day is about celebrating women’s achievements not only in the workplace but across all aspects of life, both large and small. Being heard, seen, listened to meaningfully, and respected, are all achievements that contribute to building a more balanced world where everyone can thrive.
