Meet Amie – Pixel’s In-house Interior Designer

Amie joined Pixel in December 2020 and she’s since helped us style over 100 virtual properties. We asked her a few questions about her role:

How have you found the transition from physical show homes to virtual?

Exciting! It’s really opened up the possibilities for my designs. When designing a physical show home there are certain constraints on things like budget and availability of furniture/other products, but for virtual design anything really is possible. For example, if I want a piece of furniture to be a particular colour/size/shape I can create this exactly as I want, digitally, to suit my designs.

What do you like most about designing for virtual homes?

The versatility is fantastic. I love that a house builder could take one house type and commission multiple different interior design styles for their virtual tours. It really helps potential buyers connect with a style/interior that suits their own taste and therefore can truly envisage themselves living in that space. Which I hope makes them feel more confident about making their new home purchase.

What are the major trends in show home interiors?

For this year we have seen:

– Greenery – bringing the outdoors in with the use of lush plants, paints and wallpapers. For those who are not so green fingered there are some great faux plants available

– Statement lighting – whether feature pendants or softer side lighting from table lamps and wall lights. Lighting should be equal parts functional and fashionable

– Multifunctional living – with the last couple of years this as become more of an important one. Designing spaces that can serve more than one function to suit how people live. (Working from home/homework/hobbies/reading/spending time together)

– Neutrals – using a neutral colour palette throughout a home but giving definition by using varied tones and lots of natural textures – wood, stone, pottery, wool etc.

Based on your experience, what are the main things potential buyers look for within a show home?

– Ideas and inspiration

– Window treatments – how the windows look when dressed with blinds, curtains etc.

– Kitchen selections – sometimes this can be overwhelming when faced with so many options. An interior designer makes these selections in a show home, so it lets a potential buyer see what cabinetry the designer selected with what worktop

– Tile selections – again, sometimes this can be overwhelming when faced with so many options. An interior designer makes these selections in a show home, so it lets a potential buyer see what tile combinations the designer selected

– Room layouts – whether you have existing furniture to move with or are buying all new, this can really be helpful to see what has been placed where and what scale the pieces are

– Colour palettes – wallpapers, paint and fabrics etc. How have these been coordinated, there might be a combination or bright accent colour you wouldn’t have thought of using until you saw it used in a show home

Thank you, Amie we look forward to seeing more of your designs across developments. You can contact Amie on amie@pixel-future.com
